Most of us live as if action doing is our highest priority, or as if information fact is all that is worth recording.

Sometimes we get carried along so quickly by the momentum of our activities and the gathering of data that our time for thinking about the value or significance of what we are doing (or not doing) is crowded out.

Journalling, the act of writing down what we observe or think or feel, slows us down and nudges us to evaluate the meaning of our lives.

  1. I agree. In some schools now, children have to do "reflections" on all their readings. It goes beyond comprehension to include analysis and response.

I would go even one step further in journaling to say that we should review our journals often, especially if we have only been writing down daily events. The act of reviewing can cause you to see patterns and gain insights on the meaning of what's going on in your life.
